About this Plog!

My Passion for History and Living History Reenactment has been to learn and educate others on how people lived and survived in the past. I am committed to help preserve history for our children and their children to come. To tell stories of our ancestors that is not known nor told in the history books. I am not a expert on history, so the post here are just what I found on the internet and found to be interesting. You still need to look for more research on your passionate historic topic.

Children In Living History!

In having children participate in living history we show them how people lived and survived in the past. I am committed to help preserve history for our children and their children to come.

I feel it is my duty to teach children our history for them to endure the future.

5th Annual Newport Living History Event

5th Annual Newport Living History Event took place in Newport, RI on August  25, 2018 from noon-5pm.
This event highlighted civilians and how the Revolutionary War impacted their daily activity. There were dozens of costumed interpreters portraying residents of colonial Newport, as well as the British soldiers who occupied the seaport. You learned about the challenges and fears that loyalists, patriots, and soldiers faced with war on their doorstep!
What life was like during the Battle of Rhode Island in 1778?

Stationed around Washington Square you could engage with civilian activities ranging from the Pitts Head Tavern and the Crown Coffeehouse to a laundry demonstration and British Officer’s Club.

There was even a mocked wedding of a local girl to a British soldiers.

A visit the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House to experience the tension of the war as Mary Almy prepares her boarding house and family for the potential battle as she hides her valuables and plans for departure, it necessary..

Mary Almy is a loyalist  but her husband is away fighting with the Son's of Liberty.

I portrayed Mrs. Almy's cook and servant.
I am hiding the silver, good chins and Mary's letters to her husband, that she was not able to send to him. The visiting children were very happy to help me.

My passion for Living History Reenactment!

My passion for living history is to learn and educate others on how people lived and survived in the past. I am committed to help preserve history for our children and their children to come.

Here, I am living in the 1900's as the Housekeeper of the Hearthside Mansion. The housekeepers and the Butler pretty much runs the daily activities of the house. They were in charge, so to speak.
Many of the duties of the housekeepers, was to make sure all meals were served on time and all went well in a timely fashion.

Many time I have taken on the role and duties as an laundress. Teaching young people that every chore was done with much effort. It took great strength and endurance. These duties were not a glamorous one, but must have been done never the less.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- My favorite role was that of the cook.  I enjoy historic cooking and have done much research on Hearth cooking .
I have a lovely Colonial kitchen at the Hearthside Manson that I get a chance to teach what it was like to prepare the daily meal of the era.

After a hard days work, one must always take time out to enjoy a cup of tea. That is my motto.

Civil War reenactment is a very interesting part of history for me,  As an African American and Native American, I would have been a slave in the time of war. I am a southern girl by heart and would have been loyal to my Southern heritage.

What is great about teaching history, is you do not have to take sides.
In teaching about the North and South conflict, one must have an open mind to understand the people and their feeling on what was going on at that time..

Another part of teaching, is the teaching of the "History of Mourning

The mourning fashions of the Victorian era was much different in the Civil War times.
The traditions and rituals of the early 1800's mourning chanced during the war. You can find more about this by Goggling it.

Reenacting times and people of the past has so much rewards for me. I have learned so much by taking on these roles and living them. What better way to learn?

New role and era for me.
The 1700's.  This last past year, I was asked to portray a fortune teller from the 1700's. The attire was very different from the 1800's. The first thing I had to learn, was to dress myself..

I think I did well. It was quite interesting. Just another part of history. More to come......
